Story "Lutung Kasarung" Telling

  Prabu Tapa Agung had led a kingdom in West Java for a long time. He was getting old and therefore wanted to choose a successor.

  Unfortunately he had no son. He thought of choosing one of his daughters, Purbararang and Purbasari. But it wasn’t an easy choice. They were both very preety and smart.

  The only difference of Purbararang and Purbasari was their tempraments. Purbararang was rude and dishonest, while Purbasari was kind and caring. With those consideration Prabu Tapa Agung choose Purbasari to be his successor.

  Purbararang didn’t agree with her father’s decision. And she think, she must to do something. In one night she went to witch she ask to her how to send rash to all over Purbasari’s body.

  And it’s true, in the same night before going to bed Purbasari suddenly feel very itch and tried to applying powder to her body, but it’s not use.

  In the next morning the kingdom was scandalized. After a short discussion with his advisor, Prabu Tapa Agung  finally oredered Purbasari to be moved to the woods.

  Of course, Purbasari feel very sad, but she couldn’t do anything that can made change her father oredered. She was accompanied to the woods by a messenger, he built a simple hut for Purbasari. 

  After the messenger left, suddenly a black monkey came to Purbasari’s hut. He carried a bunch of bananas. Finally, the black monkey and Purbasari is friendship in the woods.

  One night on a full moon, the black monkey took Purbasari to a valley. There is a pond with hot spring water. And the monkey suddenly spoke to command Purbasari bathed in there. So Purbasari bathed in that pond.

  After a few hours , Purbasari walked out of the pond. She was shocked to see her face reflected on the clear pond water. Her face beautiful again..! with smooth and clean skin. Purbasari shouted in joy. She qiuckly offered thanks to the God and also to the black monkey.

  After Purbasari cured, the black monkey discourage her to be his wife. And remember of monkey’s kindness to her, so also Purbasari agree to be his wife.

  After that, suddenly the black monkey transformed into a very handsome young man. The revealed the black monkey is a prince from a kingdom far away. He was cursed to be a monkey because of a mistake he’s commited. And could regain his true form only if there’s a girl who would be willing to be his wife.

  The news of Purbasari’s condition quickly spread to the kingdom, irritating Purbararang.

  Finally, Purbararang gave up. She accepted Purbasari as queen, and also confessed everything she had done then say sorry to her. Instead of being angry, Purbasari smiled and forgive all Purbararang and Indrajaya’s mistakes to her.

  Beside her was the handsome prince, the former monkey known as ..“Lutung Kasarung”.
